March 29th-April 2nd

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • The box top classroom contest has begun!  Please send in any box tops you have with your child until April 2nd!  We are really hoping to win that pizza party!
  • Please have your child turn in their monthly reading log Wednesday!
  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales. We will focus on creating our own original fairy tales and we will publish them this week!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to begin close reading. Close reading is a reading comprehension strategy in which you analyze a text over multiple days in order to gain a deeper understand of the text. 


Social Studies/Science/Word Study:  Our social studies test on Economics will be this Tuesday.  After Tuesday, we will not have social studies, science, or word study until after the MAP test in order to have extra time to prepare for the test! We will work on reviewing math concepts during this time.  We will begin a new science chapter when MAP testing is over.

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 12 and have our test on Wednesday.  We will also begin Chapter 14: Geometry.

March 23rd-27th

Important Reminders:

  • The box top classroom contest has begun!  Please send in any box tops you have with your child until April 3rd!  We are really hoping to win that Pizza Party!
  • Family Literature Night is this Friday!
  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales
. We will focus on creating our own original fairy tales and them adapting those!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue to focus on point of view.  We have seen this topic come up frequently in the evaluate, so we are going to spend some time understanding the different points of view between ourselves as the reader and the characters in a text.  This week will focus on point of view in a nonfiction text.


Social Studies:  This week we will begin Chapter 9: Economics Every Day.  We will focus on money and the many choices that can be made involving money such as bartering and budgeting.

Math:  This week in math, we will begin Chapter 12: Collecting and Recording Data.  We will focus on the multiple ways to record data such as a tally chart, frequency table, scaled pictograph, and many more!

March 9th-13th

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Friday the 13th is a half day.  Dismissal is at 11:50.
  • Friday we will celebrate the students  completing their 0-12 multiplication facts with an ice cream party!  I am so proud of all of their hard work!
  • In honor of our class average increasing in both reading and math evaluate, the students voted on two celebrations.  The first one will be on Monday- they chose to line up and sit on the carpet wherever they would like (they normally have assigned spots for both).  The second celebration will be on Friday-they chose to have a "Wheel of Fortune" party.  We will play the game while eating our ice cream on Friday!
  • The staff vs. students volleyball game will be this Wednesday the 11th from 2-3 p.m.
  • Please remind your child to wear their blue ribbon shirts for our assembly on Friday!

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales
. We will focus on including dialogue and creating powerful endings.

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue to focus on point of view.  We have seen this topic come up frequently in the evaluate, so we are going to spend some time understanding the different points of view between ourselves as the reader and the characters in a text.  This week will focus on point of view in a nonfiction text.


Science:  Due to counselor, the half day, evaluate, and the staff volleyball game, we will not have science this week.  We will start the new social studies chapter when we return from Spring Break.

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 11: Measurement.  We will focus on time and time intervals.  Our test on this chapter will be on Thursday!

March 2nd-March 6th

Important Reminders:

  • I am so excited to see how many students worked on Aleks at home last week!  The kids took this idea and ran with it! Thank you so much for your support at home with this new tool to help increase learning!
  • Monday we will be reading books with our kindergarten buddies in honor of Dr. Seuss Day!
  • Friday the 6th is a half day dismissal is at 11:50.
  • Please remind your child to turn in their February reading log this week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales
. We will focus on including narration in our stories as well as creating work plans for ourselves!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue to focus on point of view.  We have seen this topic come up frequently in the evaluate, so we are going to spend some time understanding the different points of view between ourselves as the reader and the characters in a text.  This week will focus on point of view in a nonfiction text.


Science:  On Friday, we began Chapter 7: Earth and Our Universe.  This week we will focus on the phases of the moon.  This will be a very short and quick chapter and our test will already be on Thursday!

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 10: Fractions. Our test on this chapter will be on Tuesday!  We will then begin Chapter 11: Measurement.  We will focus on measuring capacity and mass.  Our x12 (and last multiplication test!) test will be on Friday!
