February 23rd-27th

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • This Friday is our Leader in Me assembly.  Please have students wear their blue Leader in Me shirts!
  • Six Flags Read to Succeed logs are due Monday!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we are beginning our next writing unit, Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales
. We will focus on studying classic fairy tales in order to gain inspiration for adapting our own fairy tales!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue to focus on point of view.  We have seen this topic come up frequently in the evaluate, so we are going to spend some time understanding the different points of view between ourselves as the reader and the characters in a text.


Science:  This week we will continue Chapter 6: Earth and Weather.  Our test will be on Friday the 27th!

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 10: Fractions. We will focus on equivalent fractions and comparing fractions.  Our x11 test will be on Friday!

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Make sure students are studying their multiplication facts at home!  
  • Scholastic book orders are due this Wednesday the 18th! 
  • Our "Compliment Chain" celebration (trail mix party) will be on this Thursday the 19th.  If you would like to contribute, please send in items before then!
  • Spelling tests will be pushed back to next week!
  • Third graders will attend the Strings recruitment this Thursday at 2:00!
  • Science Night is also this Thursday the 19th at 6:00!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  Students have been working in cause groups and this week those cause groups will have two more sessions to revise, edit, and publish a piece.  Students were able to choose the cause they would like to persuade an audience to care about/become more informed about
.

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue to focus on point of view.  We have seen this topic come up frequently in the evaluate, so we are going to spend some time understanding the different points of view between ourselves as the reader and the characters in a text.


Science:  This week we will continue Chapter 6: Earth and Weather.  We will focus on the different types of clouds.

Math:  This week in math, we will begin Chapter 10: Fractions. We will begin this chapter with lessons focused on unit fractions and fractions as part of a whole.

February 9th-13th

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Make sure students are studying their multiplication facts at home!  
  • Scholastic book orders are due this Wednesday the 18th!
  • This Wednesday is an early release day.  Dismissal is at 1:40.
  • Friday is our Valentine's Day Party- please see the email sent in regards to what to bring!
  • On Friday we will also be watching the movie "Because of Winn Dixie" in honor of finishing this read aloud!
  • Third grade jump rope for heart time is on Friday from 12:50-1:50.  
  • Our "Compliment Chain" celebration (trail mix party) will be on the 19th.  If you would like to contribute, please send in items before then!
  • Our first prize day and bonus day for the Major Savers Cards is this Wednesday!  Please remember to send in your money and orders!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  
This week we will continue to give our persuasive speeches!  Be on the lookout for those to be uploaded to the blog soon! We will also start the revision and editing process on a second persuasive piece!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to begin focusing on point of view.  We have seen this topic come up frequently in the evaluate, so we are going to spend some time understanding the different points of view between characters in a text.


Science:  This week we will begin Chapter 6: Earth and Weather.  We will focus on the sequence of the water cycle!

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 9: Properties and Equations. We will continue to create and evaluate expressions.  Our test will be this Wednesday the 18th!  Our x10 test will be on Friday!

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  
This week we will continue to give our persuasive speeches!  Be on the lookout for those to be uploaded to the blog soon!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to begin focusing on cause and effect.  We will read many short stories and use this strategy to more deeply understand our texts!


Social Studies:  This week we will continue Chapter 8: Our Government.  We will have our test this Friday the 6th.

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 9: Properties and Equations. This week we will focus on creating and evaluating expressions.  We will work on determining the answer to an expression when it is written with an unknown variable.  Our x9 test will be on Friday!
