Busch Stadium Field Trip!

December 15th-19th

Important Reminders:

  • This Monday we have our field trip to Busch Stadium.  Please remember to have your child bring a lunch with them!
  • Friday is a half day as well as our winter party!  Please feel free to come by and celebrate with us!  The party will be from 10:30-11:30.
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we are going to continue our unit on Poetry!  We will focus on different types of poetry and begin experimenting with our own use of this writing.


Reading:  We are going to study poetry during reader's workshop as well!  We will study famous poets and take a close look into their work!


Science:  This week we will continue Chapter 5: Ecosystems! We will have our test on Thursday! 

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 5: Division! Our Chapter 5 test will be next week on Wednesday the 17th!

Important Reminders:

  • Just a friendly reminder that Wednesday is an early release day!
  • Fortel's Pizza pick-up is this Thursday!
  • Don't forget to turn in your child's permission slip and money for our field trip on the 15th if you have not done so already!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we are going to begin a unit on Poetry!  We will focus on different types of poetry and begin experimenting with our own use of this writing.


Reading:  We are going to study poetry during reader's workshop as well!  We will study famous poets and take a close look into their work!


Science:  This week we will continue Chapter 5: Ecosystems! We will focus on the food chain and understanding how living things get their energy. 

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 5: Division! We will focus on division as it is related to multiplication.  Our Chapter 5 test will be next week on Wednesday the 17th.

Important Reminders:

  • The Adopt-a-Family fundraiser is getting off to a great start!  Thank you so much to all who helped bring in food items, paper products, and cleaning supplies!  This week students are asked to bring in personal care items.  On Friday, we have Wacky Hair Day to support Adopt-A-Family (please bring in $1!)  Thank you in advance for helping out!
  • Please remind you child to turn in their November reading logs this week.  The December reading logs went home with your child last Tuesday.
  • Friday is our writing celebration!  Please remember to turn in your RSVP form if you have not done so already.  The students and I are very excited!
  • Fortel's Pizza Pick-Up day is this Thursday the 4th!
  • This Saturday is the Winter Festival from 9:00-12:00!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  In writing this week, we are publishing our informational texts.  On Friday, we will have our author's 
celebration!  Please return the writing celebration RSVP form if you have not done so already!

Reading:  This week we will be discussing the main idea of a text.  We will focus on what the author of a text is mainly trying to tell us.


Science:  This week we will begin Chapter 5: Ecosystems!  We will identify the ways in which living and nonliving things interact with an ecosystem.

Math:  This week in math, we will begin Chapter 5:Division! We will focus on modeling division as equal sharing.

Math:  This week in math, we will start creating our multiplication flashcards!  Be on the lookout for these to come home on Tuesday and practice these with your child often!

  • This week is our Blue Ribbon Celebration Week!  See below the themed days for our week: 
    • Monday: We are FLYERS!
      Wear your green and gold to celebrate that we are high achieving Flyers! 
    • Tuesday: HATS off to Concord!
      Wear a hat on this day!
    • Wednesday: Show your BLUE Ribbon Pride!
      Wear blue to celebrate our big award!
    • Thursday: Concord is a COMFY place to learn!
      Wear your pjs or something comfy that day!
    • Friday: We are a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School!
      All students will be given a Blue Ribbon t-shirt today to wear!

Math:  This week in math, we will continue our work with arrays.  We will use multiplication to represent combinations!  Our test on arrays will be on Wednesday the 19th!

Congrats Concord!

Today we watched a live feed of the Blue Ribbon ceremony all the way in Washinton D. C.!  We were able to hear them announce our school and we saw Dr. Stryjewski and Mrs. Keutzer accept the award. We are so proud of our school!

Tuesday Read Aloud!

Audrey shared "The Gingerbrad Man" with us today!  She said this is a book her mom used to read to her and her sister every night and that is why it is special to her!  Thanks for sharing Audrey!

  • Our Fortel's pizza fundraiser is due this Wednesday!  Be sure to tell friends and family about this awesome fundraiser for our school!
  • Our Veteran's Day Assembly is this Tuesday!  Make sure to wear red, white, and blue.  If your child has a veteran they would like to invite to the breakfast and assembly, please send the form back to school Monday!
  • Don't forget, Wednesday is an early release day!
  • Friday is Picture Retake Day.  Students wanting retakes must bring their entire picture package back to school.  Students who missed picture day need to bring their order form.
  • Scholastic book orders are due Monday, November, 17th!

Writing:  In writing this week, we will continue our informational writing unit!  We will focus on adding text features to our work as well as understanding appropriate punctuation for paragraphs!


Reading:  This week we will be discussing strategies to help us think deeply about our text.  We will ask each other questions that require readers to think beyond and about a text!


Social Studies:  As we continue our social studies chapter on communities in history, we will focus on the the Bill of Rights this week!

Math:  This week in math, we will continue our work with arrays.  We will use multiplication to represent combinations!

Arrays are all Around Us!

Check out all of the arrays that students brought in this week! I was amazed with all of the creative examples that were found! Keep practicing finding them at home and determining the multiplication number sentence!



Election Day!

Yesterday students got to practice exercising their right to vote!  They voted for things such as their favorite St. Louis attraction, favorite past President, and much more. This was a very exciting time for the students and I know we all enjoyed it! 

Tuesday Read Aloud!

Yesterday Breanna read "Patches" aloud to the class!  Thank you for sharing such a fun book with the class!

  • Our Fortel's pizza fundraiser will continue this week!  Be sure to tell friends and family about this awesome fundraiser for our school!
  • Our PTG Adopt-A-Family campaign kicks off this week.  We will have our famous Jingles for Jammies day this Friday.  Please remind students to bring in donations and wear jammies on Friday!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  In writing this week, we will continue our informational writing unit!  We will focus on creating powerful introductions and conclusions!


Reading:  This week we will be discussing strategies to help us think deeply about our text.  We will ask each other questions that require readers to think beyond and about a text!


Social Studies:  This week we will be going back to social studies!  On Monday, we will begin Chapter 4:  Communities in History.  We will focus on the Declaration of Independence and the meaning of independence!

Math:  This week we will be starting our multiplication unit on Monday.  We will begin the unit by focusing on arrays!  On Monday, students will be bringing home information on their array homework that will be due Wednesday.  Be on the lookout for this green sheet!
