January 26th-30th

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Friday is our Leader in Me assembly.  Please remind your child to wear their blue Leader in Me shirts!
  • Our evaluate class average increased in math in the month of January!  In order to celebrate, we are going to have a Nacho Party on Thursday!  Congratulate your child on their hard work!
  • Thursday afternoon will also be our math-a-thon.  The students wrote persuasive letters to Dr. Stryjewski explaining why we need a math-a-thon, and she agreed!  Third grade will be trying out this new idea first!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  
This week we will prepare for publication by typing our speeches!  Will will also work on editing and revising our pieces by using our third grade checklists.

Reading: During reading this week, we will continue to work on understanding the theme of a book.  We will focus on the differences between theme and main idea!


Social Studies:  This week we will continue Chapter 8: Our Government.  We will focus on the symbols of our country.

Math:  This week in math, we will begin Chapter 9: Properties and Equations. This week we will focus on the Distributive and Associative Properties.  Our x8 test will be on Thursday!

Ability Awareness Day

Today was Ability Awareness Day!  We heard from many inspiring and positive speakers!  We learned about the different abilities that students may have.  Thanks to Gabby for taking pictures during the day -be sure to ask your child about what they learned from our day!

Important Reminders:

  • Math test on Wednesday!
  • Friday is Ability Awareness Day.  Third grade will be listening to guest speakers and participating in activities during the afternoon.
  • Friday is also the 100th day of school!  All of third grade is celebrating by watching 101 Dalmatians and making pancakes!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  
This week we are going to work on using paragraphs to organize our categories and consider transition words that fit with those categories.  We will also work on choosing powerful words that make our persuasive speeches effective.

Reading: During reading this week, we will continue to work on understanding the theme of a book.  We will then focus on the differences between theme and main idea!


Social Studies:  This week we will continue Chapter 8: Our Government.  We will focus on the three branches of state government and describe what each branch does.

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 6: Multiplication and Division Patterns.  We will review for our test on Tuesday and on Wednesday, January 21st we will have our Chapter 6 test.

January 12th-16th

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Wednesday is an Early Release day!
  • Yearbook group pictures will be this Friday, January 16th.  Please have your child wear their group t-shirts such as Girls on the Run, Scouts, etc.
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  We are going to continue our persuasive writing unit!  This week we are going to choose an idea from a past entry to create into a persuasive speech.  We will then set goals for ourselves for creating this speech!


Reading: During reading this week, understanding the theme of a book will be introduced.  We will then focus on the differences between theme and main idea!


Social Studies:  This week we will continue Chapter 7: Being an Active Citizen.  Our test will be on Wednesday the 14th.  A study guide will go home on Monday!

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 6: Multiplication and Division Patterns. We will focus on multiples of 10.  The chapter 6 test will be on Wednesday, January 21st.  Our x7 multiplication test will be this Thursday!

Important Reminders:

  • Please remind your child to turn in their December reading log as well as their multiplication packet sometime this week!
  • Be on the lookout for report cards which are due to be sent sometime today or tomorrow!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we are going to begin our persuasive writing unit!  We will start the unit by creating flash-draft speeches!  


Reading: During reading this week we will review main idea.  We will then focus on theme and work on understanding the difference between the two!


Social Studies:  This week we will begin Chapter 7: Being an Active Citizen.  We will discuss our rights and responsibilities. 

Math:  This week in math, we will begin Chapter 6: Multiplication and Division Patterns. We will begin the chapter by looking at patterns in the multiplication table.  Our x5 and x6 multiplication tests will be on Thursday!
