May 18th-22nd

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Monday is Fun Day!  Please have students dress comfortably and remember to bring a water bottle.
  • Tuesday is our "Wear Red" day.  It is also the school-wide MAP celebration and students are asked to dress like super heroes.  They may choose either one of the options to dress in!
  • Wednesday is our end of the year party!  We would love to see you at the party which will start at 2:00.  If you plan to attend, please park at the Farmer's Club!
  • Thursday is Fly Up day.  Make sure to ask your students all about the 4th grade teachers they will meet!
  • Please have students wear their Blue Ribbon t-shirts on Friday for our assembly.  
  • Friday is our last day and it is a half day!  School will dismiss at 11:50.

  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
  • Today is our pizza party!  Thank you to those who have sent in the pizza money, if you have not done so, please send in the money today!
  • Just a reminder, we do not have school on Friday!  
  • Saturday, May 16th, is the annual Spring Festival! 
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will finish up our poetry unit.  We will be sharing our collection of published poems as a class!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to work on thinking within, beyond, and about our texts.  We will work on asking questions while we read that allow for deeper thinking.  We will be looking at poetry and song lyrics and discussing ways to think deeply about the poems we read.


Science: This week we will begin science chapter 9: Energy.  We will learn that energy takes many forms, causes motion and creates change.  Our test on this chapter will be on Tuesday!

Math:  This week in math, we will review concepts that we have previously learned such as fractions, multiplication, and division.

May 4th-8th

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
  • Be on the lookout for a note coming home this week about an end of the year pizza party we will be having next week. 
  • Wednesday (the 6th) is the last day to order scholastic book orders.  This will be the last one of the year!
  • Please remind your child to turn in their monthly reading log.  
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue our poetry unit.  We will focus editing, revising, and publishing our poems into each students' own special collection of poems.

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to work on thinking within, beyond, and about our texts.  We will work on asking questions while we read that allow for deeper thinking.  We will be looking at poetry and ways to think deeply about the poems we read.


Science: This week we will begin science chapter 9: Energy.  We will learn that energy takes many forms, causes motion and creates change. 

Math:  This week in math, we will review concepts that involve money such as subtraction across zeros and making change.  We will also work on creating budgets and adding up money to keep track of expenses!

Important Reminders:

  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue our poetry unit.  We will focus on the structure of our poems and how to use meaningful line breaks.  We will also work on eliminating unnecessary information in order to make our poems more meaningful.

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to work on thinking within, beyond, and about our texts.  We will work on asking questions while we read that allow for deeper thinking.


Science/Word Study: This week we will continue science chapter 8: Matter.  We will focus on the properties of matter and the states they can state.  Our test on this chapter will be on Thursday the 30th.  Along with our normal lessons, we have begun an economic project in replace of word study for the next few weeks.  With this project, students have been working in groups to create a good or service and an advertisement along with that good or service that they will present to the class.  We will begin presentations on Monday!

Math:  This week in math, we will review chapter 13: Perimeter and Area.  We briefly took a look at this chapter before the MAP test but we are going to go back to it in order to take a deeper look at each lesson.  This week we will focus on finding the area of composite figures by decomposing the figures into smaller  rectangles.  The test on this chapter will be on Friday, May 1st.

  • Reminder, this Wednesday is an early release day!
  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will continue our poetry unit.  We will focus on our surroundings as well as listening to song lyrics to inspire new poems.

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue close reading. Close reading is a reading comprehension strategy in which you analyze a text over multiple days in order to gain a deeper understand of the text.  This week we will focus on close reading a non-fiction text.


Social Studies/Word Study: Last week we began Social Studies Chapter 10: Economics.  Along with our normal lessons, we have begun an economic project in replace of word study for the next few weeks.  With this project, students have been working in groups to create a good or service and an advertisement along with that good or service that they will present to the class.  Our test on chapter 10 will be this Tuesday!

Math:  This week in math, we will review chapter 13: Perimeter and Area.  We briefly took a look at this chapter before the MAP test but we are going to go back to it in order to take a deeper look at each lesson.  The test on this chapter will be on Friday, May 1st.

  • Just a reminder that our testing dates for the MAP test are April 13th in the morning and April 14th in the afternoon.  
  • Monday will begin another week of Aleks homework, all students need to complete is 15 minutes a week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week we will begin our poetry unit.  We will focus on looking at ordinary classroom objects in a different perspective!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to continue close reading. Close reading is a reading comprehension strategy in which you analyze a text over multiple days in order to gain a deeper understand of the text.  This week we will focus on close reading a fiction text.


Social Studies/Science/Word Study: We will not have social studies, science, or word study until after the MAP test in order to have extra time to prepare for the test! We will work on reviewing and introducing new math concepts during this time.  We will begin a new social studies chapter when MAP testing is over.

Math:  This week in math, we will continue Chapter 14: Geometry.  We will focus on polygons, triangles, quadrilaterals , and other shapes!  The test for this chapter will be after MAP testing.

  • Please continue to remind your child to turn in their March reading log!
  • Just a reminder that our testing dates for the MAP test are April 13th in the morning and April 14th in the afternoon.

Writing:  This week we will continue Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales. We will be publishing our own original fairy tales and read them to our kindergarten buddies on Thursday!

Reading: During reading this week, we are going to begin close reading. Close reading is a reading comprehension strategy in which you analyze a text over multiple days in order to gain a deeper understand of the text.  This week we will focus on close reading a nonfiction text.


Social Studies/Science/Word Study: !e will not have social studies, science, or word study until after the MAP test in order to have extra time to prepare for the test!
